The International organisation
You will lead DRC’s international operations with about 95 employees in Denmark, and internationally around 7.500 colleagues incl. 600 expatriates in the close to 40 countries, where DRC is represented. The international organisation is responsible for all projects outside of Denmark

The international activities of DRC have increased significantly during the last 20 years, and the budget is around € 350 mn yearly covering all aspects of support to refugees, internally displaced and host communities from emergency aid and humanitarian demining to rebuilding and establishing sustainable solutions.

DRC is certified under the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) and is ranked as number three amongst 500 NGOs in the world by NGO Advisor. 

Setting the scene internationally for people in need
As Director for International Operations, you become part of DRC’s Executive Management team and report to and collaborate closely with the Secretary General.

The Director for International Operations line manages the four Heads of the Division and the two Secretariats in the International Department, as well as the Representations in Brussels and Geneva.

The Director for International Operations:

  • Is responsible, with the Secretary General and the Executive Management team (EMT), for developing and implementing the global DRC strategy.
  • Is accountable for the strategic direction and leadership of DRC International and for leading the business development and programme development of DRC’s international organisation.
  • Is accountable for overall risk management including transparency, financial results, security and reputational risks and for ensuring professional operational support and controlling.
  • Is accountable for external relations, policy influencing and branding of DRC internationally.
  • Is responsible, with the Secretary General and the Executive Management team (EMT), for strengthening the cooperation and synergy across all departments and countries in DRC.

Strategic leader who genuinely cares and takes action
We are looking for a Director for International Operations who can champion human rights, including rights for refugees and displaced, and for the core humanitarian and development principles. The right candidate shall demonstrate core insight into the international and humanitarian trends and policies.

The candidate shall demonstrate a strong capacity to lead, decide and innovate to ensure that DRC can adapt to new challenges and opportunities. It is imperative that the candidate shows the ability to mobilize and to ensure strong participation of all employees in the International Department and of volunteers and of refugees and displaced in the decision-making process in DRC. It is important to be a strong people manager who believes in developing the global workforce of DRC.

The international organisation is large and complex, and it is key to implement the leadership principles of DRC including the delegation of authority based on the principle of “Freedom of action with responsibility”.

The candidate must live up to values of DRC and promote the highest ethical standards. As a leader in DRC you must be able to communicate an inspiring vision and establish an overall engagement and motivation in the organisation.

Strategic leadership experience from an international humanitarian organisation
Your professional experience includes experience from an international humanitarian organisation with a certain complexity and/or matrix structure. Through your work, you have established international network and thrive in an environment with multiple stakeholders and interests. You demonstrate leadership, financial and strategic experience and accountability incl. experience from leading through leaders.

Your experience enables you to structure and direct an international expansion and further strengthening DRC’s international impact. At all times, you contribute with your strong business understanding and experience with developing international partnerships.
