Our client is an expanding Asian company, the successful candidate will play a key role in identifying, negotiating, and securing strategic licensing agreements for the development, commercialization, and distribution of pharmaceutical products across various therapeutic areas. This role requires a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical market, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders in both domestic and international markets.
Licensing In (In-Licensing):
Identify, evaluate, and negotiate potential in-licensing opportunities for new products, technologies, or intellectual property (IP) that align with the company’s strategic goals.
Lead due diligence processes for potential licensing agreements, collaborating with legal, regulatory, clinical, and commercial teams to assess feasibility and risks.
Manage relationships with external partners, including biotech companies, research institutions, and other pharmaceutical companies, to ensure successful negotiations and partnerships.
Drive the integration of in-licensed assets into the company’s pipeline, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure timely development and commercialization.
Licensing Out (Out-Licensing):
Identify potential partners for out-licensing opportunities to maximize revenue from the company’s existing portfolio of products, technologies, or IP.
Lead the negotiation and execution of out-licensing agreements with pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and other industry players.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., R&D, marketing, regulatory affairs) to prepare product portfolios and marketing materials for licensing negotiations.
Monitor the progress of out-licensed assets and ensure that external partners meet performance targets and obligations under licensing agreements.
Strategic Business Development:
Develop and implement business development strategies that align with the company’s growth objectives, focusing on licensing opportunities across different stages of product life cycles (early-stage, mid-stage, and commercial-stage).
Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and potential partners in the pharmaceutical sector.
Build and maintain a robust network of contacts within the pharmaceutical, biotech, and academic sectors to facilitate business development and partnership opportunities.
Contract Negotiation and Management:
Lead the negotiation of licensing agreements, including financial terms (upfront payments, royalties, milestones), intellectual property rights, and other key contractual terms.
Work closely with the legal and regulatory teams to ensure all agreements comply with legal and regulatory requirements and are structured to mitigate risks for the company.
Oversee the management of ongoing licensing agreements, ensuring compliance with contract terms, performance metrics, and timelines.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with R&D, legal, commercial, finance, and regulatory teams to ensure smooth execution of licensing agreements and integration into the company’s operations.
Support the commercialization of in-licensed products and the successful launch of out-licensed assets in collaboration with marketing and sales teams.
Provide updates and reports to senior management on licensing activities, progress on negotiations, and strategic recommendations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business Administration, or a related field.
An MBA or advanced degree (e.g., Master’s, PhD) in business or a scientific discipline is a plus.
Experience:
At least 8 years of experience in business development, licensing, or strategic partnerships within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
Proven track record in Licensing In and Licensing Out negotiations, including successful deals across various therapeutic areas.
Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical value chain, including R&D, clinical development, regulatory requirements, and commercialization.
Experience working in cross-functional teams, with a deep understanding of how licensing fits into overall corporate strategy.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate complex, high-stakes discussions and create win-win scenarios for all parties involved.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific and business concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to think strategically, with a focus on long-term partnership and business growth.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deals and partnerships simultaneously.
Deep knowledge of intellectual property rights and the regulatory landscape in the pharmaceutical industry.
Proficiency in both English and Spanish is highly desirable.
