Chief Data Scientist

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Data Scientist to lead and oversee data science and AI/ML initiatives for a financial institution. This role is critical in driving data-driven strategies and innovations that will shape the future of our client's financial services offerings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, with proven leadership capabilities and a passion for solving complex problems. This role requires familiarity with international business practices and cultural diversity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

   • Define and execute the organization's data science vision and strategy aligned with business goals.
   • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML initiatives, from ideation and development to deployment and optimization.
   • Partner with senior leadership to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business value.

2. Team Management

   • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and analysts.
   • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team culture.

3. AI/ML Initiatives

   • Develop and implement machine learning models for key financial services use cases, such as fraud detection, credit scoring, personalized recommendations, and risk management.
   • Oversee the deployment and scaling of AI solutions in production systems.
   • Ensure ethical AI practices and compliance with regulatory requirements.

4. Data and Analytics Leadership

   • Drive the development of advanced analytics models and tools to support decision-making across the organization.
   • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines and infrastructure.
   • Champion data-driven decision-making and democratize analytics capabilities across departments.

5. Stakeholder Engagement

   • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, marketing, and compliance, to align on data-driven initiatives.
   • Communicate complex data science concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement

   • Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in data science, AI, and fintech.
   • Experiment with cutting-edge tools and methodologies to maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications

• Education

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

• Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in data science, with at least 8 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading successful AI/ML initiatives in the financial services industry.

• Technical Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Expertise in machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc.).
  • Proficient in big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, SQL, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps practices.

• Leadership Skills

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Industry Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of the financial services sector, including regulatory requirements, customer behavior, and market dynamics.
