Freelance Compliance Consultant (F/M)

We are assisting a leading Belgian insurance company in their search for a Compliance Consultant with a legal background, available for a full-time freelance assignment. This position is ideal for a compliance professional who combines a solid understanding of Belgian insurance regulations with legal expertise.

In this role, you will help ensure the company’s compliance with all relevant Belgian insurance laws and regulations, including the Insurance Distribution Directive as implemented locally. Leveraging your legal background, you will interpret regulatory requirements and assist in translating them into practical, actionable compliance frameworks. You will support the drafting and revision of internal policies and procedures and help maintain robust governance structures throughout the organization.

You will also contribute to building a strong culture of compliance and good governance, working closely with other team members and providing training on compliance topics relevant to the Belgian insurance sector.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the implementation and oversight of compliance frameworks tailored to the Belgian insurance industry, with a strong legal perspective.

• Assisting in drafting, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures to ensure alignment with Belgian regulatory requirements.

• Advising management and internal stakeholders on regulatory developments and supporting the business in adapting to new compliance obligations.

• Contributing to training and awareness initiatives on compliance topics within the Belgian insurance sector.

Profile sought:

• Master’s degree in law (or equivalent), with a recognized compliance certification or relevant experience in a compliance role.

• Experience in compliance within the Belgian insurance sector.

• Good knowledge of Belgian insurance legislation, especially regarding product governance, product distribution, and the IDD.

• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This is a full-time freelance position based in Brussels. The project is set to begin as soon as possible, with the duration of minimum 6 months.
