We are looking for a skilled Freelance Compliance Consultant with in-depth expertise in insurance regulation to strengthen our compliance framework. The consultant will provide strategic and hands-on support on GDPR, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) compliance. This role requires a strong understanding of regulatory obligations across the insurance value chain and the ability to translate them into effective internal controls.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct compliance gap assessments and advise on remediation plans aligned with GDPR, AMLD, and IDD requirements.

Implement and maintain policies and procedures related to data protection, distribution conduct rules, and anti-financial crime measures.

Support the oversight and governance of insurance distribution activities, including product governance, transparency requirements, and fair customer outcomes (IDD).

Guide on data processing, privacy notices, consent management, and breach protocols under GDPR.

Strengthen AML/CTF frameworks including customer due diligence (CDD/KYC), ongoing monitoring, and reporting of suspicious activities.

Assist with compliance monitoring plans, internal audits, and regulatory inspections.

Deliver staff training on GDPR, AML, and IDD to ensure regulatory awareness and compliance culture.

Monitor and interpret relevant regulatory developments (EIOPA guidelines, EU directives, local law) affecting the insurance sector.
Qualifications & Experience

At least 5 years of compliance experience in the insurance or financial services sector.

Solid knowledge of the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), GDPR, and EU AML Directives.

Experience working with regulators and implementing compliance frameworks.

Relevant professional certifications are a strong asset (e.g., CIPP/E, CAMS, ICA, or equivalent).

Strong communication and advisory skills; able to influence at all levels of the organization.

Fluent in English; other EU languages (especially French or German) are a plus.
