Job Title: General Manager
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Taiwan
 
Our client in this search is a global leading technology materials company.
 
The Position:
The General Manager is accountable and responsible for the overall Performance of company operations and is instrumental in driving sustainable improvement of Customer and Employee Experience. The incumbent will be the P&L Owner for multiple locations/sites and is responsible for driving the operational, people and financial performance, in close coordination with the COEs at local and regional level. They collectively will guarantee the sustainability of the site, therefore implementing the means to support the growth of turnover, profitability, the satisfaction of internal customers and the support of staff, in strict compliance with regulations, particularly those relating to safety, quality and the environment. It prepares the adaptation of the subsidiary to its present and future market and lead the Advanced Manufacturing Centres (AMC) and company operation.
 
Responsibilities:
Production:
  • Arbitration of industrial choices and investments consistent with the defined strategy
  • Proposing and implementing the Site strategy in close coordination with the respective COEs
  • Setting production objectives, in terms of quality, deadlines, costs and stock levels; and control of their achievement (ratios)
  • Guarantee the monitoring of the efficiency and reliability of production tools, to ensure the deployment and maintenance of the Industrial Management System (IMS)
  • Responsible for Regulatory Compliance (IMS), ensuring regulatory monitoring, and ensuring that operational managers comply with local laws and regulations
Maintenance:
  • Define and implement the subsidiary's maintenance policy, in close coordination with the Industrial management COE
  • Guarantee compliance with local legislation, procedures, technical notes and standing instructions of the group in terms of design, construction and modifications of site installations.
  • Ensure all aspects of repair, troubleshooting and planned maintenance related to production, building, facilities, and grounds is performed.
Marketing & Sales:
  • Participate in the Industrial, Operational and Commercial Planning
  • Define the subsidiary's Production and Supply chain plan which aims to support the growth of sales, market shares and profitability of the subsidiary, in close coordination with the regional and central function.
Human Resources:
  • In line with the strategy and with the Human Resources partner/s, analyze and define positions and jobs, plan human resources needs, and guarantee the permanent availability of skills for each position
  • Develop the affiliate/s recruitment, transfer, promotion and departure plan in close coordination with the COE
  • Implement the skills development policy: performance assessment, training plan, and individual development plans
  • Participate with remuneration policy
  • Guarantee compliance with social legislation and contractual agreements with staff
  • Ensure the quality of internal communication
  • Encourage staff support for company values
Supply chain and Inventory Management:
  • Guarantee the continued availability of products and services to customers and be the “guardian” of the DOI matrix in the country to ensure uninterrupted supplies to all out customers(internal & external)
  • Maximize Asset performance
  • Ensure the reliability of customer logistics and packaging management
  • Develop and implement the purchasing and inventory management policy in accordance with the strategy
  • Validate the AMC's/Affilaite’s purchasing and supply procedures, in alignment with Company procedures
  • Ensure the permanent availability of products and services to different users, as per agreement
  • Guarantee compliance with customs legislation and contractual agreements with partners
Quality, Safety, Health, Environment:
  • Develop and manage the subsidiary's risk management policy
  • Define and implement the QHSE policy in alignment with the Company central functions; taking into account risk analysis, legal and regulatory constraints, Corporate group requirements, customer and staff expectations.
Accounting, Finance and Operations control:
  • Implement the Accounting and Finance policies in close coordination with the respective COEs and ensure accuracy of Financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with the auditors as applicable.
Product Development, R&D:
  • The GM shall coordinate with the central functions to facilitate the respective operations related to R&D, product development in their sites/ affiliates.
Management:
  • Provides legal representation of the affiliate to all concerned authorities when necessary
  • Define investment needs consistent with the AMC’s/Affialite’s development plan
  • Plan, Organize, Lead, and manage the team and ensure daily management activities are within the limits of the powers delegated and in alignment with the budget set
  • Validate internal procedures taking into account legal constraints and those of the Company
  • Be responsible for the improvement of Cx and Ex , in alignment with the targets set.
  • Organization, Administration, Management and reporting to the Board, as stipulated by the governance set for the affiliate/entity.
  • Compliance with the local & federal regulations and Company standards
Projects:
  • The GM is also the Project Owner Representative for the investment projects executed at the AMC, by the AMC team for the small projects and by Company Engineering for the medium/large projects. As Project Owner Representative, the GM ensures the operational readiness and a seamless handover from Project team to Operations team.
 
Required Qualifications/Prerequisites/Experience:
  • BS in Chemical Engineering or similar degree
  • 10 + years experience in leadership roles with increasing responsibility in the domains of process, production, quality, safety, project engineering or manufacturing.
  • Experience working with highly hazardous chemicals such as toxic, flammable, pyrophoric products
  • Experience working in dynamic environments of short time to market and high customer expectations.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in written and verbal formats with stakeholders at multiple levels in the business and cross cultures
  • Experience to lead teams
 
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
  • P&L Management experience would be an advantage
  • Masters in Chemical Engineering or similar a plus
  • Operations Facility management experience in the field of Electronics, Specialty chemical, food or pharmaceutical industry or any industry with extreme contamination control standards will be an advantage
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification or equivalent knowledge
  • Statistical Process Control, Statistical Quality Control experience
  • 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Understanding of the principles of chemical process automation
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety methodologies; Loss Prevention, LOPA and HAZOP
  • Ability to lead root cause investigation and analysis
